Say Anything

  1. Yeah that's a little disheartening, mostly because I like to believe that Obama has the presence of mind to remember that he is contradicting himself. Of course the man has been talking, everyday all day, for over a year on this campaign trail, so cutting him some slack isn’t out of line.
In any case, the fact that this “flip-flop” is about missile defense is likely not a coincidence. Missile defense is costly, experimental and possibly self-defeating (by expanding missile technology). It is possible that Obama changed his mind on this difficult issue.
At least I have confidence that Obama is capable of changing his mind. I fear that McCain has abandoned his own opinions in favor of political tactics. I am disappointed by this because McCain’s integrity appealed to me.

  2. I think Obama is capable of both learning and changing his mind (which I respect) and saying anything for political gain (which would be unremarkable but for his "new politics" campaign). Hard to say on any occasion which is which.

  3. I don't see how the two separate statements are at all contradictory. In the debate he says that we are spending billions on missile defense and that we need missile defense. In the advertisement he says that he will cut investments on unproven missile defense systems and that he will not weaponize space. Where's the implied contradiction? Don't we already have an arsenal? Do we need more?
