Novice Needs Info

I note that sometimes when I click on a person's name or pseudonym, I get a screen with (very limited) information about who he is; other times I get nothing.
I conclude that this information is provided by the person himself.
How do I provide information about me?

    No sooner did I post this item than I somehow got sent to "my profile." So I straightened up in my chair (to achieve a better profile) and filled some of it in. Seems to have stuck.

    These gizmos just beat everything!

    So, never mind.
