Sixty years ago today, the "General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights...Following this historic act the Assembly called upon all Member countries to publicize the text of the Declaration and 'to cause it to be disseminated, displayed, read and expounded principally in schools and other educational institutions, without distinction based on the political status of countries or territories.'"
The Human Rights Action Center has generated the promotional video above and a larger, very cool one without the use of celebrity on their website, here.
Are you really serious? Of all the many ways in which the UN's credibility has been compromised, there is no more sad and, frankly, culpable fraud than the Human Rights Council--a cabal of cruel tyrannies that send representatives to indulge domestically prohibited pleasures in NYC as the very people they are charged to protect, especially woman, are butchered alive by machetes throughout Africa. Please!

ReplyDeleteI do not contest nor disagree with your dismay regarding the ill-repute and disrepair of the UN Human Rights Council. This post had little, if anything, to do with the Council. The post was with respect to the historic and momentous passage of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 60 years ago, Wednesday. I think we can all take a moment to read the document and honor its passage while contemplating its unfortunate failure at being successfully executed and its rights 'declared' protected.
Parchment, is all. Might as well celebrate the Soviet constitution's guarantee of "the right of personality." Better, if you like parchment, celebrate the 1789 French version. It's better.
